Jane Eyre is a tragic story about a young girl who is orphaned and then turned out by the only family she has left. She is sent to the Lowood School where the children are neglected or mistreated for roughly ten years. During the last two years there, she begins teaching. Eventually, she leaves Lowood to begin working as a governess for a mysterious employer's ward. Here, Jane finally finds the love and belonging she so desperately desires. This story is perfect for any British Literature class as an introduction to life in the mid-1800s. Bronte, Charlotte. (2003). Jane Eyre. Dover Publications.
